    Ruger Trigger Problem

My neighbor has a Ruger M77 that has the safety like a 98 Mauser on an he bolt shroud.
The problem is when you work the bolt the first time the trigger is hard. After it fires and you work the bolt it is very light.
He complained about it last year and did not bring it to me and yesterday he complained about it again.
It is in the middle of hunting season and I don’t want to change the policy my of impact because he can’t get to the range to sight it in.
Any idea what could be the problem?

Try cleaning the bolt inside and out very well. Old hard grease ?? Flush the trigger assembly well, with lighter fluid or smiler.

Check to see how tight the stock screws are. A friend if mine has issues with his trigger and we found that if he tightened the rear trigger guard screw down till it was tight that he could not get the safety off. Fixed it by putting a thin shim (washer) between the stock and trigger guard. The stock was slightly soft and just a 1/4 turn too much and it would cause a problem. Too tight and safety was stuck. Too light and the action moved around affecting accuracy.

A little Berryman B-12 in a spray can did the trick!
It was all that I had handy.

Thanks for the follow-up. It is always helpful to know what took care of the issue.
