My system with corroded barrels with bad muzzles (and good barrels too) is to establish how far in the damage is,then counterbore until the muzzle shows sharp even rifling........Ive had lots of guns with damage no deeper than 1/2 " that wouldnt hit a 12x 12 at 50 yds returned to acceptable collector grade accuracy.4-5 moa.

This is what I did. I had to counterbore nearly three inches. There was also a tight spot in the center of the bore which I lapped out. I have no idea how it would have shot without the counter-boring. I'm contemplating shortening the muzzle then threading what's left in front of the front sight and fitting a mini-suppressor. Two advantages of doing that is firstly, it keeps muck out of the muzzle and secondly, it reduces recoil and muzzle blast. I had been thinking in terms of passing it on to someone who might want to restore it to full battle dress but apparently it's not worth it due to the cost of all the bits that would need to be found. All it has at this stage is an uncut barrel and butt stock. It hasn't been fired much with the bluing still very good. It was corrosion that damaged the muzzle end of the bore. However, as it is, it has a very nice balance and would make a great hunting rifle.
