My next two projects, 357 Maximum and 35 Whelen

I have a brand new 10 inch 357 Max barrel for my Contender and I am going to run some LEE 200 gr, Flat noses for practice and some NOE 182 cup points for hunting. If I can reach 1700 fps with either bullet I will be happy. The Whelen will get a 2000 fps load using either the MP 220 grainer or the 200 gr. LEE. Might even experiment with velocities up to 2300 fps. Going to use H110 and 1680 in the Max. The Whelen will get tested with 2400, IMR4227, WC852 or any of several other powders I need to finish emptying their cans, R7, IMR4198,H322. It is deer season but the first 357 Max loading has already begun.

I am much happier with my Milsurp 680 than I was with H110 in my Max. If you use H110, use magnum primers and test it for reliability in temperatures as cold as possible before relying on it.

You really want to see the Whelen shine...shoot heavy for caliber....go 250 to 310 grain. Why shoot 200 grainers in both, they will do the same thing.

You'll probably get a hefty muzzle blast with 1680 and that short barrel. The slower powder, 2400 and 4227 not near as much. I have a 24" Max that prefers 1680 over 4227 with RCBS 200. Good luck, keep us posted.

Pretty much loading to similar speeds with the 350 Legend and the 35 Remington. Muzzleblast is a concern so I think I will start with 2400 in the Max. The 35 Whelen I am loading to shoot up some older cans of powder I have laying around just for the fun of it. Will drag out the Magnetospeed to measure some velocities. This week will be pretty busy with company and deer hunting but starting Monday I will be able to play with these 35's a bit.
