Vintage Redfield 102 L Peep Sight For Savage 1899 Rifles

Can this Redfield 102 L Peep sight for Savage 1899 rifles be modified to fit my new Rossi 44 magnum lever action rifle....any of you machinists/gunsmiths out there?

    .

    Maybe..............

The main issue would be if the horizontal bar is long enough to center the aperture on the bore C/L - which can be tested via holding the assembled sight against the side of the receiver.

A secondary issue is that the Rossi's I've D/T'd have all had the hardest steel I've ever come across - making it mandatory to use the correct drill & tap for the application.

Maybe, I'm not all that familiar with old Redfield sights.

I will say you will probably be money ahead to sell your sight to a Savage 99 owner and buy one that fits a 92 Winchester.

Yeah, I would agree is I could find one for the 1892. I want an old Redfield or Lyman because the are all steel, nobody makes a good all steel receiver sight now, the ones that are available are made out of alum. alloy and sloppily fitted. Been looking for an old Redfield or Lyman for the model 92 for months now, looking for something that can be made to work at this point.

FWIW, any receiver sight designated for the Winchester 94 will also fit any Model 1892 - as Winchester used the same sights on both guns.

I guess I just got back here (and over there) a few minutes too late, but appreciate the heads up.

Not traditional looking, but you can buy a sight for your Rossi from Steves Gunz. Or you can make one if you have a lathe and some time. I just finished one up for my Rossi .45 Colt.

NO!!! just get the right one for your gun!

The one you've got is worth more than the one you need. so you've got a bargaining chip.
