    Browning Silver Field-barrel removal

After shooting several hundred rounds I decided it was time for a deep cleaning. The GF's gun barrel removed "Just like the video". Mine won't come off. Tried putting Liquid Wrench on it, still no. Also tried putting an empty shell in chamber and tapping with a dowel. No again. Sent an email to Browning last week, they haven't got back to me yet. Is this a common problem with this gun? Any idea on how to get the barrel off? Was bought brand new a year ago and is a 20 gage.

    .

    * Pull the bolt all the way back & check that the chamber is empty.

    * Release the bolt so that it's fully forward.

    DO NOT PULL THE TRIGGER

    * Unscrew the metal forend cap & slide the wood forward/out

    * Slide the barrel assembly forward off the magazine tube.

    * To clean the inside of the magazine tube, carefully removed the magazine spring retainer from the front end of the magazine tube.

CAUTION: The spring is under pressure, and will snake out of the tube fast/hard.

    * For a deep cleaning, the trigger assembly should be removed for an internal flush/lubrication via drifting out the two lower receiver crosspins & withdrawing the assembly down/out of the receiver for servicing.

Except that the barrel assembly will not slide off the receiver. I was going to clean two of them. First one came apart just like your instructions. Next one won't.

I'm going to give it to my gunsmith. Maybe he can figure it out.

For those not familiar with this technique, it's call DESPARATION TIME. With action in vice, I was able to see that barrel could me moved in action but not at gas block. So, I made up a wooden wrench to get a better grip on it. Barrel wiggled right off. Apparently, this gun needs a lot more frequent deep cleaning as opposed to my Baretta A400.

You got to do what you got to do. I'm glad that you got it off- now look for the burr or machining debris that held it fast- there's something in there!

I clean our a400s like every 750-1000 rounds.(every 2 months). Even then, the 20g looks clean, but the 12g gas port is starting to get blocked. They are great running guns.

Was a whole lot of powder residue in there. My estimate for number of shots was about a 1000. Had been using some old powders (4756, 7625, PB, & 700X) that I bought at an auction for $2/lb. Can't pass that up. Will have to keep tract of shots for a more frequent cleaning.
