All My Centerfire Rifles Are Now Blooded

Id been sitting out by the shop retaining wall as a makeshift blind at my Grandmothers lake house. The house and shop sit on 5 acres along with an adjacent 4 acres with no buildings owned by a neighbor. Neighbor encourages deer hunting. I watched this doe come in behind the shop. I walked around the front to wait for her to come around but she never did. I walked back around and came around the back wall and there she is 20 yards away. She turned and ran away from me slightly tracking left. I raised up, aligned the Skinner sights and hit her at 40 yards on the run. Boolit entered right behind the rib cage and exited right at the front of her shoulder, breaking her down. She tumbled down 40 yards or so of steep gully and piled up. Rifle is a Marlin 336 in 30-30, loaded with an NOE Hollowpoint lubed with Carnauba Blue, a homemade gas check, over 6.5 grains of Red Dot. As of this morning, all three of my centerfire hunting rifles have been blooded with cast boolits. Thank you again to all the help from members of this forum.Click image for larger version.

    Way cool.

Reminds me of a trip back in the early 90s when I went on our annual hunting with a life long friend.
At our camp, I opened my case and pulled out the M1A.

He asked me why I didn't bring my usual scoped Rem700 .30-06.
I told him I brought the M1A because I hadn't killed anything with it yet.

Exactly!!! I'd developed two loads for it with two different boolits, one a HP and one a WFN. And I had never not used a scope for deer. Truth be told, I brought my bow down looking for my first archery deer. Took a shot and ranged it wrong, went right over the back of a doe. I put it away for the morning and got out the Marlin.

Good job and I know exactly what you mean. I have some unblooded rifles still, but so far this season I've crossed the 6.8 and the 38-55 off the list. Both with cast.

Fantastic job with a "mousefart" load. That bullet was only going about 1100 fps. Who needs belted magnums?
