    Most idiot proof powder

Which powder in your experience has been the absolute easiest to use in terms of even coverage, good flow out when baking, and the hardest to screw up?!! I had some Eastwood maroon and I did not find it easy to get good coverage. Tried upping the temp when curing, but my oven does not go higher than 410. I am wanting to try some of smokes powder. I will be using the shake and bake, no airsoft bbs. So like I said, which powder has been the easiest to work with? Thanks!

I had to read all 3 posts twice before I realized the OP was NOT inquiring of propellants, but of polymer coatings. I AM getting old. Maybe I should join the 21st century & begin PC'ing my projectiles.

Clear and Ford Light Blue are pretty hard to mess up.

I mix 50/50 Smokes gloss black and aluminum white. It flows perfectly while baking and is smooth and lump free. It must be idiot proof since it works so well for me.

I always get good coverage with Smoke's Ford Light Blue, and John Deere Green powders.

I've not had any problems with any of Smoke's powders. I've mixed 2 together and have always had good results. Check out his sticky for colors and choose the one you want. He also offers a sample pack that gives you a 1/4 LB of 4 different colors he offers.

Smoke's Clear or his Carolina Blue. I've used both of these for several years and never had any sort of problem with either. His Signal Red works pretty good, too but I've found it to require a little more care when handling coated boolits before baking.

Thanks folks! Ordered some clear from smoke. I may actually try mixing clear with the maroon to see if that helps!

That stuff sure is spendy but if it looks as good as it does on their website, it would sure make some purdy boolits...

I've used 9 different colors from smoke and have t had any issues with any except the jet black clumped up on me. I think it got a little.moisture in the bag but still works fine. He has the best stuff I've used so far.

    Hey jevyod,

If you are having trouble coating bullets please read this post I made several days ago I think it may help.

If none of that helps you may want to try heating the bullets 150°F and then try tumble coating. The heat makes the powder stick better.

The easiest powder I have ever used is the clear powder. It goes on matte white which makes inspecting coverage super easy then it flashes clear when it's baked.

I've never had a problem with Smoke's Traffic Purple. In fact, it's been fool-proof. (Lucky for me.)

I am 100% in the clear camp! It goes on easy, looks like powdered sugar to me. Like previously said, easy to see any light coating, bakes perfect. That being said, Carolina Blue is the prettiest blue I’ve ever seen! And all Smokes powders mix together well. Just the opinion of a relatively new to powder-coat person. Can’t go wrong with the clear! Good luck to you.
I firmly believe that you should only get treated by how you act, not by who or what you are!!

Evening more interesting thing I discovered tonight, that even permanent Sharpie
Magic Marker won't stick to it. 'just balls up/rolls off like oil on water.

    Fascinating......
