Not sure if this is the place to ask or not

I have been playing around quite a bit with the 3844 loads of course I'm shooting them in my 686 Smith & Wesson revolver my question is shooting 3844 out of a lever action I was curious if it is going to increase any of the velocity or if it would be pretty much the same as using the revolver. I have looked all over the web,but find nothing about shooting them from a rifle. I have shot a few out of my Rossi, but not over the chrony. Some of my loads are close to 1258 fps. I'm courious what they would do in a longer barrel. Has anyone tried this and if so how did it work out. Thanks ... John..

They will increase out of the rifle.

Your mileage may vary, but look in the Lyman book for cartridges like .357 and ..45Colt.
You'll see some of the same loadings fired out of revolvers and lever guns.
Compare the speeds and you'll get a rough idea what yours will do in both.

Can't speak specifically on 38/44 loads but 357 will pick up 200-500 fps in a carbine over a revolver. Full power loads with slower powders like 2400, H110 gain more than lighter or mid-range loads with faster powders.

We look at pressure as determining velocity but it goes hand in hand with the volume of gas created. That determines the time element that the bullet is pushed out the bbl. Some powders produce more gas volume than others creating a peak in a 20" rifle vs a peak in 6" pistol bbl. The best way is to shoot it and see.

    Hello
We have a Colt New Service and Winchester 1892 in 44 WCF. Our loads with 3F BP will go about 200 fps faster and the Unique loads around 225 FPS faster in the 20 carbines.

    Cool

Look here for real world results. A .45 LC or .44-40 is not a .38/44.
