Shorter barrel on Remington 700 6.5?

I have a very nice Remington 700 6.5 Creedmoor but would like a shorter barrel. It currently wears a 24" tube, would like 18-20" so it's a little more portable in the brush where I hunt. I really don't want to cut down the factory barrel either. What would be a good option for having it rebarreled for a reasonable cost? It is just the standard sporter contour. If I found a factory takeoff barrel, would it be much of a chore to have it installed or would I be better off with a new barrel anyway?

In the end, you'd be better off buying another rifle like you want.
In the end, it will cost you no matter what.

Maybe look online under Rem700 take-off barrels. I’ve bought a few that way.
Then call around at local gunsmiths and vet them with questions. Just me, but I’d cut that factory barrel in a heartbeat. This coming from a guy that’s had a 16-1/2” 8x57 and a couple of 18” 22-250s and an 18” .358 Norma….

Thanks, will keep that in mind. Knowing me, I'll probably change my mind and keep it as is.

Explain the resale value of a 6.5 Cr with a 16" barrel....... Just build an AR upper, if you have an AR already, in a 30 to 358, with a 18-18" barrel.

Cost way less to just cut it off and recrown it.

Yes indeed. I guess I just like being able to put it back to factory form if needed, not that a plastic stock 700 ADL is ever going to be a collector's item.

I was ogling the Savage 110 6.5 today at work. It is pretty slick and feels more compact than my 700. May just end up with one of those.
