    The Fifty-seven(s)

Even though i don't own a rifle so chambered, I have been obtaining some 6mm Remington brass because it has been available. It seems that 7x57mm brass is hard to find lately, so today I reassured my self that I can form 7x57mm brass from 6x57mm brass. Necking up to .257 Roberts first made it very easy going.
I have 8x57mm brass, so I don't have to neck up that far.

Sounds good. You can also make 7 x 57 from 30-06 or 270, as the lower part of the -06 type cases has the same dimensions as 7 x 57 (Springfield armory "invented" 30-06 by extending the length of a Mauser case)

I made some 8 X 57 from 30-06, didn't really need any but I wanted to try. The only problem was that a doughnut formed at the base of the neck. I used a neck reamer to remove it. Could have been the old military brass some of it is thick anyway. After reading this I might try some 7 X 57, I have a few 270's laying around that I don't need.

    Never hurts to have options.

I have a 1916 Spanish Mauser 7mm with a poor barrel that will become a .257 Roberts or a 7x57mm with a barrel change. I'm just getting ahead of a possible(probable) brass shortage......
I've formed 8x57mm from .270 brass. I wouldn't want to go farther down in caliber size.....
    Unless I had to.
