I have two older Rossi ‘92’s in 45 LC (pre-safety) and both are slick little carbines. I load them very hot and have no issues with bulged cases. One of mine is an 18” that someone did an action job on - the other one is a 20” that is basically new. Both are quite accurate - my son uses the shorter one as a hog gun…we nicknamed it “Josefina” after an old Willie Nelson movie called “Barbarossa”…

My R92 was made in 2016 right about the time Rossi fixed some of the issues that were common with older ones.
Too strong ejector and hammer springs and rough actions.
They still have dovetail sight slots that are oversize, plastic mag followers and a finish that is so weak that it doesn't protect the stain on the wood.

I didn't have to do anything to the action or trigger on this one, but did put in a metal mag follower and finished the wood so it is protected and better looking too.
I also added leather butt cuff I got off Amazon to lengthen the LOP slightly.

Main load is the 158gr. XTP with a full charge of A#9. I had some issues with the 180 grain MBC Pugnose keyholing with several slow burning powers I tried.
I then tried a max load of Lil' Gun and no keyholing with good accuracy.
I happened to work up the same load with Lil' Gun and the 180 Pugnose from starting to max, and the same max load that shot well in the R92 shot fantastic in my S&W M66.

My carbine wears a take-off Uberti ladder sight and a 1/16th Marbles white bead in the front. Both sights needed shimming to say put in the Rossi's wide dovetails.

Should be bailing it out around New Years, fingers crossed that it's good to go.

    It'll be worth the wait.
Only a fool would attempt it, and God help me I am that fool.

Thanks, I sure hope it is. Visually, it is one of the nicest late model 92's I've laid eyes on. When I was a kid in the 80's and 90's the Interarms examples were really nice, on par with originals or even better for 25% of the price. The lack of $300.00 and being under 18 kept them out of my arsenal.

Well fudge, this thing is due out on Jan. 3 and I just got hit with major unexpected bills. I may have to turn around and sell it NIB. Life just gives ya lemons sometimes!

Hopefully it will work out that you can keep it... most of us have been there, though.... there are several on my list that I wish I could have held on to.... stuff happens.

Yep, just gotta count your blessings sometimes. I already have a sweet Marlin so I can't complain too loudly!

Don't let it go unless you have to, but I do understand.

I love my Marlin, gave a whopping $275.00 for it in 1998! Even before JM Marlins went through the roof I declined several 1000.00 offers for it. I feed it the the Lee 358-125-RF at 1300 or so.

Well, I'm going to cash in some gun equity and bail out the Rossi today. If all goes as planned I won't have to sell it. First load I'm going to try is a mid-range charge of the late, great IMR 4756 under a Lee 125 grain slug. My Marlin loves this load so hopefully the Rossi will too.

We were blessed with really nice weather today so I gave the Rossi some exercise with 7.2 grains IMR 4756 under the Lee 125. Function was 100%. The rifle will do around 2.5" at 65 yards which is pretty typical for me with anything that has open sights. I did find that I had to drift the rear sight way over to the left to get the windage correct. At some point I will get this rifle drilled and tapped for a receiver sight. All cases looked normal, no signs of bulging whatsoever. So far I'm quite happy with this rifle!

Wonderful news! As for sights, I really like the Skinner sights. You might have to buy on of their front sights as well. The brass bead is nice.

That is great news! I wish mine had been that way, but... sometimes the magic works, sometimes it doesn't....

Thanks. Its going to be my last new gun for awhile so I'll be getting to know it quite well. I have a Lyman 66 receiver sight ready to install.

The Rossi comes with a Marble's Buckhorn copy rear sight. It works well enough, but still doesn't work great for my eyes. I've always been a fan of the Marble's folding leaf type sights. They are simple and have about the best sight picture for a barrel mount sight for me. Turns out I had one in my little gun junkyard and it fits perfectly. I took it out to 50 yards in the fading light after work and it works great.
