I have a laser sight on my Kahr and it only comes on when needed. And if it falls, I have iron sights right there and ready.
On a rifle, they are fast and easy. There's no learning curve to them. On a pistol, there's definitely a learning curve. You need a fair amount of practice to get fast with one. There are some that have a giant ring just outside of your sight picture that will help guide you in. Mainly the Holosun 507 with the ACSS reticle. That is a MASSIVE help to someone new to pistol red dots.
