Lee 7/8 slugs at around 1600-1800 fps

Guys I got one of those damned Turkish bull pups and seems they mostly like heavy loads. I have a bunch of 7/8 Lee slugs that I want to use and I have titewad and other powders I could use. I’m trying to get up to 1600 to 1800fps. My question is, can I reach those velocities with titewad without compromising accuracy? Have any of you experience at these numbers?

1500 is as fast as I was able to achieve with pie plate accuracy at 75 yds and shot a million of them out of smoothbore with Longshot IIRC. Click image for larger version.

I have loaded the 7/8oz Lee slug for an 870 Rem (smooth bore) but only got 1500fps max with any acceptable accuracy, as well. However, I have read from pretty reliable sources that most chronographs read 100 to 150fps slower than actual because of the plastic wadding used with most loads distort the readings. I have not been able to confirm this finding with any certainty, but know the slug is very effective within its useful range regardless. I'd be interested in others experience and measurements in the matter.

Take the "Sky Screens" off the Chrony. It will work better as long as you can shoot over the center of it. Make a hash mark (piece of tape) on the front of the unit so you can index properly over it.

I test slug velocity way back from the chrony, like 15' if not 20'. If the wad interferes with the reading you will not get any consistent results at all. If it is reading consistent, the numbers should be correct within normal variation.

I tried to use 7/8 oz slugs full hollow base but never had much accuracy until I switched to a 1 oz keyed slug and the last batch tested came in at 4" circle at 40 yards shooting off hand and a bit high so I suspect they will be bang on at 50 yards.

    Did you chrony your shots?

Awesome idea. Will try removing the screens.
