It is my understanding that it is just size , trim , and fire form .

Stepping up 22 to 24 to 26 cal will/should result in better necks .

The example I load for is worn some and I find that 2-3 passes and 243 becomes useful brass .
I lube as normal and half stroke . Relube the body and make the full stroke turn 180° and make another stroke . This leaves a ridge at the just above the extractor groove that has to be removed but is easy to do with a drill press and file if a lathe isn't available, like in my shop .
I have a Big Max next to the RCII that helps with the heavy head forming .

243 and related 308 family cases are cheaper than Swift brass .
Last year Midway had lots of PPU 6.5 Japanese brass available at about 75¢ ea new in bags of 50 . I didn't do that as I had a bunch of 243 in several HS but mostly lots of 20-30 .

I was young and stupid then I'm older now. Me 1992 .

Yes, it does work. The few brass that I converted, Mostly to see if I could, were okay but there were some that split. So going step by step as Harter66 suggested may be the answer to that. My experience with 308 brass was that they could be made to work but I had to reduce the diameter of the brass by chucking the brass in a drill and spinning the case against a file until they would chamber. It's a lot of work. 35 Remington works but is slightly short. 6.5 M&S and 6.5 Carcano also work if you can find some. PPU brass cased ammo is easiest to find in 6.5 Jap and or convertable 6.5 Carcano.
