Powder coating has had no noticeable effect one way or the other in my testing.

Did you expect them to expand easier by simply powder coating them?

No I figured they would not expand due to being slick

I don't think the PC really has anything to do with expansion. Try a softer alloy.

I use a lead mix that’s approx. 11.3 BHN for 10mm. I powder coat my boolits. I hunt hogs with a 10mm carbine.

I have not recovered a boolit yet, but I have seen signs of expansion in the animal, as well as in a soft dirt berm. I feel confident that when the boolit strikes something (bone) it upsets. I believe its based on how hard a mix you have. I also DO NOT water quench my boolits.

I've shot 45 acp 230 hollow points that were powder coated into snow banks and they showed less expansion than the same uncoated boolits. They still expanded just not as much.
Oh great, another thread that makes me spend money.

The advantage of PC is you can use a softer alloy to get more expansion without leading issues.

ID:	305506 soft lead about 8-9 bhn at about 1000 FPS recovered from chert berm at 50 and 200 yards 44 cal. Without powdercoating I don’t think I could run that soft at that speed without a gas check.
