    Dumb questions

Does anyone make a bullet mold for a .17 caliber rifle and if I could get one is it worth trying to cast for my .17 Hornet?

There are no dumb questions: just dumb answers. The smaller a bullet mold is the harder it is to cast with. I'm sure that there are 17 caliber molds, but at that small size it might be better to look at swaging instead of casting.

Don't know if they will work for you, but NOE has 17 cal molds.

    I had no idea anyone made 17 cal. moulds ... Three nice ones , a 24 gr, a 26 gr. and a 32 gr.
Talk about casting small ... those are tiny !

Like messing with rice grains. They did not have the HP version or 24gr when I got mine.

Thanx guys you've given me a lot to think about. Right now all the .17 molds and sizing dies are out of stock. Since I still have 5 boxes of factory ammo, I've got time to think about it all. I would have ordered some of the lead boolets but those are out of stock too...

It's not the casting of the .17" projectiles that would daunt me so much as trying to attach the gas-checks!

He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind: and the fool become servant to the wise of heart. Proverbs 11:29

If I do end up casing for the .17 Hornet, you can bet I'll be powder coating them and not even thinking about gas checks. I was a bike mechanic in my wayward youth and tinkering with tiny and fiddly parts is something I'm used to so loading for the .17 Hornet is not something I was ever worried about...

It might be heresy here but why not just buy .17 projectiles? Those small ones are cheap.

It seems that people who do almost nothing, often complain loudly when it's time to do it.

Which falls faster - a pound of lead or a pound of feathers?

The occasional genuine dumb question is never identified as such.

I do powder coat but like a GC since I like to push them a little. I have found that running the CB's at around 22lr velocities your accuracy is best. Once you get over 2200 fps the accuracy goes down hill fast. My rifle is capable of sub MOA with j words, but with the cast 172-26 gr @ 1800 I am getting 1.25" at 100 yds it do whack tree rats though.
