I have a 460 in an Encore barrel
just wondering if anyone hunts with this cartridge?

I use one for hog hunting , very effective out to 100 yards using a 405 gr. bullet

I have the cousin in a 95 Mauser 45 Raptor.
250-265s even in pretty excited loads were quite pleasant to shoot . I didn't chronograph those more than casually , 21-2200 fps no where near the rocket sleds reported some yr ago pushing 2800 fps . I got to 1900 fps with a 350 over rifle powders to suit the 16" barrel and to say they had stopped being fun about 1900 fps might be slightly understated . The rifle tips in about 6# .

The data I've reviewed in depth held it to about 42-43kpsi , 460 data that is as they share data . The Raptor is rimless ,a blown straight 308 case . With the 454424 at 250gr and 1050 fps I had 24-27" penetration through live hogs at 25-50 yd and closer because that's how shots worked out over 3' with an exit from a luke warm 45 Colts I would think 18-1900 fps would extend that past 100 yd . Consider the 460/45-70 relationship to be about the same as the 260 Rem or 6.5CM/6.5×55 relationship and you'll have appropriate expectations.
