    Chronograph - Guide Wires HIT

Unfortunately, I hit one of the guide wires while chronographing, knocked it out of its receptacle hole in the chronograph. The wire is bent as heck but, the chronograph (ProChrono) appears undamaged and seems to be working well; registering velocities just fine. I had a spare guide rod knowing the likelihood that this may happen someday and it reattached just fine.

Would you return it to the manufacturer for a checkout just in case?

I want to replace these guide wires with wooden dowls. Would you know a source for these?

Local hardware store, like Menards or Home Depot sell wooden dowels of various diameters.

    …great idea, thank you

I just purchased them off Amazon!!! perfect size, the wire guides are .20” round, 18 inches long, and ones I purchased are accommodating (5mm x 19.7 in long (500mm))

Wood dowels can be had almost anywhere. Decent hardware store or a big box hardware store should have them. On the Chrony they take a 3/16" rod, so using a 1/4 dowel just a few minutes with a pocket or utility knife and they work.

Best upgrade ever. Just stash a few extras with the chrono and no worries.

If the bullet strike didn’t damage the receptacle the wire sat in, I wouldn’t send the unit back.

Someone I know (me) has hit the rods on his chronograph too. A hammer and a bit of time made the rod straight again. I have now learned some tricks to avoid my problem.

Believe it or not, ever since I started using the shishkebob skewers to protect my Chrony, I've never hit one. Still carry a few spares in the kit anyway.....

My choice also. Half the time, I don't even put up the screen. Use the skewers with some orange paint for elevation above my chrono.

It's having spares, one of the Murphy Laws.
