    32 extra long center fire.

Is anyone having trouble finding brass for .327 mag or any of the other straight walled .32 cartridges? Did you know that you can form them from .223 brass?

I made this one as an experiment. The rim on the formed one is 6 thou thinner than that aged .327 brass everything else is very close. I have not sectioned it to see how much meat is left in the head but .223 brass is quite thick in the head.

I'll have to look at some of the .223 brass I have kicking about, since I don't own anything that can fire it. Neat trick, and thank you! This would be a good use of brass with dents or a split neck, in particular.

It takes more swaging because the .223 are roughly .030 larger. The rim can be pushed forward at a slight angle to increase the space it occupies because, as you note, it will be a little thin. I have not made 32 XL from them but years ago made some .25/20 SS from .223. But it can be done and then you can shoot your rifle instead of just looking at it. The curse is the work to do it, the beauty is we will probably always have .223 brass.

yeah, the beauty is .223 brass is plentyful and .223 ammo is or was cheap. I had sold thousands of .223 brass as scrap brass. For this split necks are fine, I trim off the neck before I form them just because I use a vice and I can form in one less step if the neck is gone. A swaging press or a hydraulic press would make this easier.

I like playing with the mini lathe so the turning part is a joy for me.

I made a second case just moments ago from LC brass and the rim is a couple thou thicker on this brass. I think the rims would be fine as is but your idea of pushing them forward would be easy and fix the issue if there is one.

another thing that you could do with the brass is make shotshells for your revolvers.

As you probably know, .25-20 Single Shot brass is the best case to start with. That is quite scarce, but I'm managed to gather a fair supply of it. But I've also made quite a few .32 Ballard Extra Longs from .327 Fed Mag. Until recently it has been plentiful. I've had good results by placing a "wanted" ad here and other appropriate forums. It's out there, you just need to sniff in the right places. Here are a few I made from .327 Fed Mag.
