    RCBS 82020 Bullet Mould 30-180-Sp

found used at a good price.
I haven't bought it yet, but I can
    I've a 700 Rem. .308 1/12 " 26" bbl.
I can use vihtavuori powders only,
but this would be less of a problem.
pros, cons, or useful tips from those who have it.
I'm a basic plinker, to all my intents and purposes.
    thanks to all_

Looks like some lead smears on the tops of the mould blocks.
Should make you some fine cast bullets.

The 30-180-sp should be a great 308 Winchester boolit , a slightly heavy for caliber , 180 gr. is about perfect for 13.0 grs. of Red Dot ...
would be a plinkers delight ! My RCBS Cast Bullet Manual doesn't show any V V data but I'm sure it's in other manuals , 308 Win. is popular .
If the mould looks to be in good shape ... and includes the handles ...
Jump on that deal with both feet !

I've had this mould for more than thirty years and it's a good one. However, I don't use it often only because I prefer a slightly heavier bullet of 200 grs. or so. I've had no experience with VV powder and cast bullets.

...me too: I loved Sierra HPBT 200grs, molycoated by me.
few months ago a big stash of monotype has pushed me to re-think about my next rifle loads: my old casting outfit has gained a 200grs. Lee mold and soon this RCBS...
thank you very much pworley1 and lotech !

RCBS 30-180-SP is a very fine bullet, indeed! I use it almost exclusively for military matches in a CMP 03A3. The bullets are gas checked, powder coated (Smoke's clear), and sized .310, over 21.0/IMR 4227. When I do my part this combination off the bench at 100 yards is capable of consistent 98s on the SR-21 target. I weight sort my match bullets. Good bench technique is extremely important.

VV N120 could be a good substitute in this load. I've tried it and it faired well, but I do not remember the charge weight right offhand.

    I like RCBS moulds.

    Thanks, Sundog.
about the .308, I started with a Lee 160grs. mold, and around 30grs. of vv.140, following the redux formula of Richard Lee, but I never liked the short COAL of my handloads. I'm sure that with heavy grainers I will have something better to play with !

That is a very good boolit. Congratulations on finding one. VV 120 is supposed to be very accurate with cast. I would try 20.0 grains to start and work up .5 grains at a time until I reached peak accuracy or I hit 25.0 grains.

I just have the 120, Ringtinglen, and I appreciate even more your input...with or without a fluff or dacron ?

I have its little brother, RCBS 270 150, a slightly heavy for caliber 270 Winchester boolit. It is currently the only one I use with 10 grains of Red Dot. Its a shooter for sure.

...me too I've always found myself better with relatively heavy weights, cast or j., in .308 and 8x57_

An uncompressed 3/4 grain fluff of Dacron or Kapok--or Bamboo-- seldom hurts. Just don't compress it into a plug.

I have always liked the RCBS line of "Silhouette" bullets, which at one time was what they were touted for. I have this style mold in 270, 7mm, 30 and 338, and have always gotten good accuracy. I campaigned the 82080 in a Wichita chambered for 308 Winnie and a T/C 10" 30 Herrett (Ptoduction class). They both shot extremely well. Truth be told I didn't care too much for them when hunting though.
