I grab any of the old stuff that I can when I see it. It definitely does work better

I'm another one suggesting calling Henry. I have a Goldenboy. In the manual, it say the receiver is what henry calls brasslite. It has the look of brass but is not exactly brass. They don't specify what it is though. Its supposed to be harder and won't damage as easily as brass would.

Henry recommends #9 in their user manual for their brass frame centerfires.

Bortec eliminator, is great, fantastic stuff on the inside of the barrel, gets out lead and copper, just by soaking, use a nilon brush to help if you want to>> don't know about the outside on a brass gun ??

What about chambering a spent casing in the chamber that was fired in the rifle and closing the action? the case mouth should be expanded to the chamber - keep the rifle horizontal and go at it. You could also use some of the Green Frog Painter's tape to cover the brass up and when done, just peel it off - the tape shouldn't hurt the polished brass any.

I guess following the directions in the manual isn't too popular.

I've used it all my life to remove powder fouling from the exterior of blued handguns, including scrubbing particularly fouled spots with a solvent soaked toothbrush, and have never experienced any damage.

Have you thought about using JB bore cleaner, it's a soft abrasive. Works well to remove copper without ammonia.
