    Sailboat keel

My friends that own Everett Bros Recycling in Stuart Fl have a sail boat keel that they would sell. i don't know anything about weight but its 6 foot long and in the middle maybe as big around as your waist. Ask for Phil or John, tell them Mark Cook told you about it

Old keels were made out of very soft lead. I had a sailboat that had a 1500 lb exposed leads keel. Any little dings or divits were just tapped out with a hammer. Tim

It’s true that old keels were made out of soft lead, however, some modern ones are made with a harder alloy so they won’t dent as easily. There’s also the possibility of a keel made by a do it yourselfer. That keel could be anything. Maybe even wheel weights.

A chainsaw works well for cutting keels up into manageable size. Put down a tarp to collect all the lead cut by the saw.

I used a heavy fire axe. One keel dismantle job was all I needed, I do not pickup keel lead any more.

I posted this so if anyone needs the lead he can deal with these guys, they are fair and honest, ive known them since high school. He told me the one i saw he had carried to the scale with a loader and it was over 3000 lb. He has another that is still in the fiber glass keel section of the boat and has not been weighed
