Well the chromalox worked like a champ. My NOE analog thermometer was reading 730 degrees. I fluxed numerous times and scraped to get all the old crud out. I loaded 25lb. in and it wasn't even half full. I cast 21 1lb ingots and left 4lb in the pot. I'm pretty pleased with the 80.00 investment. Rob

If it self regulates at 730 degrees, and that is a good casting temp for your alloys, I wouldn't mess with putting a PID on it.

Yeah it held that temp pretty well. Even with a couple of ingots thrown back in it was back up to temp in a matter of minutes.

Chromalox is still around, started over 100 years ago, now they make heaters for all sorts on processes. https://www.chromalox.com/ Don't see any lead pots listed though.

Yes I talked with them. They dropped their melting pot line over ten tears ago.

I’ve got an old gas fired plumber’s pot, but I would have been all over that one, especially at $80!!! Looks like yo made a great find.
