    Alloying with pure sb

    Hey all!

I got pure lead and blocks of pure antimony. I've only once before alloyed with pure sn. I then melted pure lead first, then mixed equal parts of sn and sb. I made a steel mesh basket to hold the sn in and submerged it in the molten lead until it was dissolved. Then fluxed it like I use to with saw chips.

I only use two alloys. 2sn3sb95pb for normal handgun use and standard harball 2sn6sb92pb for magnum and 9mm.

What kind of alloy would you first make when blending pure sb, and make it easy later on to cut it to bullet alloy?

Super Hard Alloy Metal Ingot - 5 pounds (30%-Antimony, 70%-Lead) This alloy will melt at around 745 Degrees which should be easy to reach in most small melting pots.

Rotometals do not send to Europe. That was their answer anyway, when I contacted them last time. I tried to order a ton of superhard, but no way.

I just think its easier to use lino or mono alloy for getting antimony up in my alloy.

Isn't tin required to get the antimony to dissolve into the lead?

Not required, but beneficial because the antimony has an affinity for tin and tin blends easily with lead.

I just add Rotometals linotype. About 2" of a 5 pound bar is melted into my 10 pound Lee pot. Makes wheel weights and range scrap more useful to me.

Have never tested hardness, other then a thumb nail. If i can mark a bullet, its to soft for even 45acp target load.

You can run pretty soft alloy in 45acp & 38sp, properly size & lubed or coated. I rarely use anything harder than range scrap for my 45acp 8-9bhn.
