My bullet above loads to like 1.62 and feeds in every lever action I have tried. I just put that disclaimer about the Henrys but have no experience. This OAL feeds in one Marlin and 4 different rossis and it feeds super slick with the .22 meplat vs the common .28 meplats.

Mehavey, my apologies, I should have been more specific. I was using a 35 Remington and was relating our experiences as to expansion and alloy and speed. The 357 should be able to get north of 1500 with a lighter boolit and get some rolling of the nose. If I remember right, "Handloader" mag had an article on 357 not long ago and published velocity's in the 1600/1700 range if my memory serves.

    No apolgies needed ABJ.
In fact I was going to recommend the 35 REM as a most excellent way to get that mass moving that fast.
    Great (overlooked) cartridge.

    Oh Heck Yeah !
They don't even need to be hollow points ... my solid points expand easily , classic mushroom shape ,
to the size of a 5 cent coin ... I have a few somewhere ...
Trick : Gas check desigh , 1200 to 2000 fps - you want it moving fairly fast .
50-50 COWW - soft lead , air cooled ! NO watter dropping or hardening . 50-50 gives you a tough boolit that will mushroom ... too hard = brittle and the nose just crumbles .
Experiment with velocity to get best accuracy in your handgun / rifle .
    Gary

    P.S. The 357 magnum Handgun was Ruger Blackhawk 6 1/2" bbl .
Boolit was Lyman 358156 SWC GC and an obscene amount of Unique , load taken from Speer #8 ... (8.0 grs. Unique @1297 fps ... this was 1967 and we were young & foolish ... DO NOT LOAD THIS ) ... the cast boolits mushroomed nicely and a good rifle could probably develop these velocities .
Fired cases have some sticky extraction ... this load may be one of the ones that made Speer #8 ...Infamous !

(correct if wrong please). Will a 158 grain non hollow point at around 2000 fps expand (as shot from carbine)?
    All inputs welcome.
Years ago I tested the 180-190 grain wfn with 28 meplat. With a 50/50 alloy of 9bhn air-cooled hardness, the nose will start to rivet at about 1100 ft per second, if I remember correctly, in 1 gallon milk jugs. Again, if I remember, anything above about 1500 ft per second delivers a fantastic mushroom.

    Well . . . . .

Cast Soft / protected by PC . . . . Very effective no matter what.

I can drop the velocity, but don't expect a whole lotta difference while still >> supersonic.
(But first I have to drink more milk)

A couple years ago I replaced my long missed .357 Magnum, I ended up getting a Taurus model 608 with 6.5" barrel . I shot a lot of loads though it and settled on the Lee 120 TC.355 bullet I powder coat (actually spray paint and bake) these and size them at .359" cast of strait wheel weight they weight 125 grains. I worked them up to an average of 1617 f/s they do expand in water at that speed and out to 50 yards I have not fired them further yet.
When I think back on all the **** I learned in high school it's a wonder I can think at all ! And then my lack of education hasn't hurt me none I can read the writing on the wall.

I found some of my .357 160 gr. Swc powder coated slugs in the berm. I was shooting them at around 1150 fps. Could hardly believe it. They looked like a J-word softpoint in a bullet advertizement. We checked the hardness with my friend's LBT tester and they were almost pure lead underneath the PC. Sand on the berm and animal flesh aren't the same I know but sure was a surprise how they looked. I'll see if I can find the pics on my phone. Well, tried but after mailing myself the pic, it won't post from this squirrely Ipad.

[QUOTE=mehavey;5443788]Please tell us how to load a 35-200 bullet into a 357 case, or
any case that will chamber/feed in a 357 rifle ....]

This is the RCBS version loaded in a 357 case. Seated to 1.590" like any std 357 mag bullet and crimped lightly over the ogive it cycles just fine in my 1982 Marlin 1894C. With 12.8gr H110 it chronographed 1470 fps from the 18.5" barrel and could probably be pushed a bit faster.

    Well... OK
But this is the way I have to do it w/ heavy 200 grainers.
Either way, 38 or 357, the OAL drives roughly the same case usable case volume for powder.
