Commerative $2 bill

Out in my safe I have and old Silver certificate $2 not sure what the value of it is it is,

Due to it being sort of rare--
In the old days, there was a scandal somewhere about a politician buying votes with $2.oo bills.
Back then, if you spent one, everybody thought you'd sold your vote.
After that, they became unpopular, and nobody wanted them.
In later years, like those dollar coins about the size of a quarter, they just never took off.

The value is probably a few bucks more than two Silver Certificate one dollar bills go for now.
Check the govt. website or somewhere-- I'd guess it to be worth about $25.oo.

I love $2 bills. I buy as many as I can from my local bank. Then I go to the gentleman’s clubs and I hand them out to the dancers. In the dim light the dancers think that they are 20s and they treat me like a king. I love $2 bills.

Winger Ed Thanks for the information I have no idea what will end up with my coin collection it never really gained much in value a few have others seem to stay the same I will probably pass the entire thing to a grandkid.
I suspect someone in this area had there rare coins stolen I got a fairly shiny penny back at the grocery store it was a 1943 ! That is unusual today .

Years ago- The CG of a Marine Air base in the Carolinas did something similar.
The troops were being treated badly by the local town businesses and law enforcement.

The CG put the town off limits to active duty personnel for a few weeks.
All the businesses squealed like a pig stuck under a gate, but he held fast.
When he lifted the restriction, he had everyone on the base paid in Silver dollar coins.

With buckets of the coins on the floor around all the cash registers in town, the message was received.

I've a good friend back in MS who has for years, gone to local bank and gotten bunches of $2 and the dollar coins. Used them for cheap tips, or to pay for cokes and snack whenever he traveled. The looks on some cashier's faces when they got a $2 or even the dollar coin.....

Oh yeah, you should see their faces when you hand a young person one of the old big silver dollar or 50 cent
sandwich coins from the 70s.

I just traded a kid at Micky Ds a dollar bill for 2 pre 1960 silver dollars. He was happy to get them out of his drawer. Had no idea what they were.

Back in the 90's the person ahead of me at a convenience store paid with 10 --- fifty cent coins.
The clerk didn't have a spot in her change drawer for them, and was puzzled with what to do with them.

To solve her dilemma, and lower her stress level--I gave her a $5.oo bill to solve her problem.
They were all pre-1964 and solid Silver.

In the 80's, a buddy had a part time job re-filling Coke machines.
At an apartment building he dumped out the coin box-----
and got an instant coin collection for about $13-14.00.
Some kid had raided his Dad's coin collection, and bought drinks for all his little friends.

Got a one dollar Silver certificate at Walmart years ago, the cashier was not sure it was good so I offered her a dollar for it. Still have it.

When Pres. Carter went to Mexico City Several folks from the Marine One crew and a couple birds went there too.

When our shop rags got dirty, the State dept. gave us a guide and translator to go find a coin laundry to wash them.
The laundromat machines required tokens. We'd gotten a few bucks of Pesos- but had to trade them for tokens.
The machines were originally set up for American quarters---- which were the 'tokens' you had to get from the attendent
They'd gone around and around in there for a generation..........

Yep---- they were all old solid Silver US quarters!
It was probably less than $20.oo, but the guys cashed in all the money they had for those 'tokens'.
