    Shotgun shell availability and price

I don't follow such things, but I am wondering how the current ammo famine has affected the availability and price of shotgun shells. Has this had any effect on bird hunting?

It will affect dove hunting for sure.
Limited expensive 12 gauge, NO 20 gauge, 16 and 28 strangely in stock, NO .410 shells.

It seems the guys at the gun club don’t have trouble getting 12 gauge ammo. But they probably have deeper pockets than I do.

Target Sports USA has some 20 ga. No idea if it's what you need. Still no .410, though.

Walmart has cheap birdshot for $10 a box. And 100 round packs for $32. Sucks but glad to atleast have the chance to get some.

Home rolled 20 ga 7/8 oz cost $8.65 box to load if that’s any indication…son bought 12 flats of Federal Top Gun 12 ga 1 1/8 oz for $9.99 per box couple of weeks ago.

An update- this evening Academy had 12 and 20 gauge Remington Shur Shot shells for $9.99/25.
Monarch (Spanish) 12s and 20s for the same price.
Still no .410s to be had.
I've enough shells, I just need some birds to shoot them at!

Here in Northern Oklahoma you can find 12, 20, 16 and even 28ga pretty easily, but I haven’t seen any 410s.

Atwoods, Walmart and Academy have been pretty well stocked around here. Cost is up about 12-15% on most everything I’ve seen.

I can't speak for loaded ammo but components for reloading have been hard to come by for sure. Shot is up around $60 a bag. Powders are scarce and higher in price. Primers are really scarce. Most of what I've been purchasing is from folks getting out of shotgunning or reloading. That being said I load for 12,16,20,28 and .410. Things aren't improving that much......Happily I have enough loaded for dove season next month...

I don't wander Walmart much, but was in one yesterday, and went through the supposed sporting goods section. Bunch of 12g in dove load, duck load, and target. Didn't look at prices. But they had a couple of cases each, enough to fill the shelves. Goodly number of other ammo behind counter. I'd be looking now... friend who duck hunts bought lots last year wherever he could, mentioned the other day he was stocked for this season. Btw, I didn't see any 20 and I rarely see 16 which is only shotgun I have...no 410 either

I don’t know for sure Thomas, but don’t you need rain and growing things to draw in the birds?

Never never order from Optics Planet. They lie and then lie some more once they have your money.

Doves showed up here last year in the usual migration but a lot of them didn't leave. Strange to see them this time of year competing with the jays for acorns.

Mal those may be Eurasian doves. They are bigger then turtle doves and hang here all winter. They coo like the smaller doves but also have a growling call too. In Colorado they are invasive species so can be harvested year around. Just as good to eat but bigger breasts.

We are getting the usual budget 12's and some 20's in wally world but 410's are hard to find and about 40% more then 20's. I haven't looked at the prices recently since I reload my own and have a case of each ready in all 3 gauges.

I agree. I have bought several things from Optics Planet and never an issue. I will never buy anything from "Cheaper Than Dirt". They only screwed me once but, I have read several bad reviews for them on this forum.

All of a sudden, bunch of bulk boxes (100 shells) have showed up at the local wally world. Mainly 12ga. and a few 20ga. packs. $34.97 IIRC

Have bought from them at least three times in the past year or so, and
Have had zero problems with them, some complain about Midway also.
I've dealt with them for several years now and never a problem with them either.
