    Different 454424 Boolits

    Hello All,

I tried searching but could not find the image I seek. Years ago someone one thins forum included an image of the various changes made to the Lyman 454424 boolit. The image contains 6 or 8 different bullets from molds supposedly all the same. He may have lined them up at the crimp groove to help illustrate how the location of the crimp groove varied quite a bit.

If anyone remembers it or has saved it, please post it.

    Thank you.

I don't have it but remember it. There was also an image of 11 or 12 different 429421 molds. The inference is, that if anyone expected Lyman molds to be exact it wasn't the cherry manufactures, nor the QC at Lyman.

Although it does not sound like the photo you are looking for, I posted this one MANY years ago. All are IDEAL/LYMAN 454424 except the extreme left which is 452424 and the extreme right which is from the Catshooter LEE GROUP BUY 454424.

    Jerry,

Thank you for that image. Not the exact one but certainly gets the idea across.

    Thank you.

Few weeks back, while going thru boxes, I found this mold. Since I had 45 Colt revolver years back, and for relatively short time, I never had a chance to try this mold and forgot about it:

Looks like one of those late ones that Keith rebuffed: unequal length drive bands, front one short and round grease groove.

Seems to me closest to Keith's requirements is the extreme right LEE GROUP BUY 454424.

Just curious, anybody has this LEE 454424, what's the accuracy?

When I used it in my S&W Model 25-5, it brought in about 10 or 12 white tails. Other than that, I have no idea of what it would do on paper. I have Target revolvers for that and they are a bit more finely tuned than the 25.

I have used that bullet in one of my ACP revolvers. It shot well but not well enough to replace my edc load using a 240 full wadcutter boolit.
