Here is the magnetic base I just finished 1 1/2: aluminum hex stock with a small noga arm. Indicator is a interrapid with a dovetail adapter on the rod.

Going to pull the vise and start on the swivel fixture to do fine angles next this will have the dividing head and tails stock mounted a 10" sine bar built in and 2 adjustable rests. It will allow me to do tapered octagon blanks at .005 per inch. Also to make sight bases ribs and other features right on the barrel. The sine bar deature will allow setting taper per inch and angles easier. This is going to be a more involved project.

    Cool! Moving or fixed magnet?

Looks like you're building a really fine shop!

Fixed magnet potted it in with JB weld theen rolled the edge over it after the epoxy cured Used a foredom tool and hand piece for it. Its just like a stone is set in a ring or necklace. With no switch the base can be stronger and smaller giving more room to use it.
