    Lee Pro 1000

Can the Lee Pro 1000 be used to load short action rifle stuff?? I'm thinking 308 & 6.5 CM. I have a the 45 ACP shellplate carrier and I am wanting to use it for 308(non-military). It looks like there would be enough room, just gotta see if somebody else has done it. My powder measure will need to be upgraded.

I'm thinking it can be done if you hand index at the bottom of the stroke.
Just taking out the index rod should be all you need to do.
I'd try this before spending any money for an upgraded PM though.

Just know indexing at the "not quite" bottom, before the primer pin pushes up the primer.
If you "pre-prime" that primer pin could be removed so that indexing can be done at the actual bottom of the shell plate travel.
I've never done any of that though.

.Edit: so yeh, you would add the bullet to be seated AFTER hand indexing.

Size/Prime a few cases when starting off with a progressive and put them aside. You can plug them back into the process when a bad/odd case screws up in the priming station and continue loading.

I have the 45 ACP shellplate in the press and am selling the press. I just thought it would open it up to potential buyers if it did something other than 45 ACP/Super/Win Mag.

    +1

Also, there is a lot of tension stress on the shellplate retaining bolt when a rifle case is coming out of the sizing die, this will accelerate wear on the shellplate carrier. You can avoid this by sizing off press.

A double disk kit may give you enough of a charge, just be sure to use a ball powder. Extruded powders don't play nice through powder dies.

If you prep and size the brass off press, like on a seperate single stage, you can finish loading in progressive mode.

Assuming you got the priming system to work for you.

Using already prepped, sized and primed brass, it will be a great time saver.

The pro1000 can do up to 223 rem/5.56.
With 308 win, it may get stocked after bullet seating.

The Pro 1000 was limited to .223, unless you come up with some sort of mod.

I could be wrong but I believe the 6000 is suppose to be. Again could be wrong but I thought I remembered reading that.
