This is what I was going to recommend. In the book, Sam Fadala used to buy 303 Savage ammo to pull the 190 gr bullet and reload his 30/30 with the heavier bullets

The bullet I showed earlier averages 197 grs with gas check. The five shot group was with my eyes and peep sighted Krag. The three shot group(with two in the same hole)was from my 1-10" twist Mauser Oviedo 30-30.
I may save some for hunting this fall.
Considering the 105° temperature when I shot these, I'm ok with them! The targ-dot is 4"
Thanks to DG for the bullets!

I have a plain-based copy of the Lyman 311041 cast of 50/50 WW/lead at 185gr. that I PC. It gets very good results on target so far, holding ~2" at 100 yards using AA 5744. Also thinking about some AA 2015 if I can find some. Still playing with it, but it looks like this will be the hunting boolit this fall.

Texas by God, tell me how you set up that Mauser for feeding a rimmed case. I'm looking for a front-locking action for the nicely efficient .30-30. I don't want to get into jumping through a lot of hoops to make one feed, though. I suppose, if push comes to shove, there's always the rimless version, .30 Rem. I plan to take a page from Larry Gibson and make it a 14" twist so I don't have to be concerned with the rotational limit with cast.
