    "Miracle" cure for arthritis?

Posting this here for those of us who suffer from arthritis and other inflammation related afflictions.

I'm only 53, but I have had joint pain ever since I came home from Desert Storm. Totally unrelated per the VA...

I had knee surgery a couple of months ago for a torn meniscus in my left knee. Doc said I had bad arthritis, torn meniscus, and destroyed cartilage.

Had the surgery and it made everything worse. After two months of limping, my right knee started hurting as bad as the left one.

Doc said I had bad arthritis in it and likely degraded cartilage and will need surgery on it soon.

My dad mentioned that his best friend had damaged his knee 3-4 years ago with a torn meniscus. He's 82 years old.

But, his friend used DMSO on it and said it was completely better within a day, and after a couple of applications, it was back to normal within a couple of days and hasn't been a problem since.

I remember that he had been on a DMSO kick a few years ago and my mom gave me a bottle of it back then to use.

    Totally forgot about it.

Found the bottle in the back of the medicine cabinet last week and decided to try it. It's a roll-on applicator...

Within a day or two, my left knee felt much better, and my right knee was totally pain free.

I could not believe it! I did daily treatments for over a week and while the left knee still has pain (no cartilage and it is bone on bone) the right knee is completely good as new.

I did some internet searching and this stuff is the real deal. It has a fascinating history and was discovered by mistake as a treatment for arthritis and inflammation.

Just thought I would pass the info along as I was amazed at how quickly it healed my arthritis.

Thanks for the tip. I have been suffering quite a bit over the past 6 months or so with hip pain. I was told it was moderate arthritis. I may give this a try.

Really? Goodness, my horse vet told me about DMSO 40 years ago.

You aren't healed, your pain is masked.

Is the garlic smell/taste that's supposed to happen a real problem? When I first started working in sawmills the lumber grader used it for arthritis in his hands, I never did hear him complain about a garlic side effect.

Been using DMSO for quite a while working with horses, mixing with different liniments for there joint pain. It’s a solvent, very powerful solvent. Will burn you if you get it into a tender area. It will carry what ever it touches into your body. You get that garlic taste if you apply too much at once. Must wear gloves when handled. Will solidify below about 70’ F.

My Dad used it for at least 30 years. He obtained it from a doctor who was a Veterinarian before he became an MD. He always cautioned him not to take too much or he'd be prone to "whinny" (he had a sense of humor). It's a Steroid that many athletes have used to get through the pain of over exertion. It does give you "oyster breath" upon topical application to any area of the skin.
I'll take "masking" the pain over surgery any day when neither completely cures Arthritis. Of course, I have to use a lot of mouth wash to mask the bad breath - there's never a "free lunch" with any medication. I've not seen it labeled with an easy to use applicator (thanks Idaho).

    Sharps 4590 is dead on.
BTW, the more the "pain" is masked, the more joint damage that can occur.

This stuff should never have made it on the market, another Foul Up by the FDA. FDA should stand for Federal Death Agency.

Another option is taking collagen (types 1,2, and 3 combined in one pill) along with glucosamine chondroitin. My late Uncle had me try it after I told him about my left knee. Had mri and such as I could barely bend it and get up. Doc said really bad arthritis. Started taking the combo and about a week or so noticed a huge improvement. That was about 4+ years ago. I can still get it to "pop" and get relief when it stiffens up. This worked for me. No idea if it will work for you.

CBD works better. DMSO is a driving agent, that will make deeper penetration of liniments. Use the wrong combination and you will wish you never heard of it.

My wife has been battling Rheumatoid Arthritis for over 30 years and was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis. They're both beginning to really take their toll on her body. Over those 30+ years we've both learned a heck of a lot more about joint pain, joint damage and deterioration, pain relievers and their effects than either of us ever wanted to know. Her only recourse now is a cancer chemo drug, Retuxence, that is given as an infusion. I had 6 months of chemo and I believe hers is worse and she only takes it once every 6 months. Sooo..use the DMSO but don't think for a moment you're curing anything, you aren't. The long term effects are not good.

Lots of folks have good results with collagen and glucosamine/chondroitan. Unfortunately I wasn't one of them. CBD didn't do me any good either. I need a back surgery now but so far a steroid shot in my L-1 vert. is keeping it at bay. All I'm doing is prolonging the inevitable.

Best of luck with the back surgery and your wife. I had L4-5 cleaned out and fused. They got me walking better again. Begged them to take care of my S issues, never mind all the rest of my back/neck but surgeon won't touch it. Looking at burning nerves next as final option. I had to beg surgeon the first time as my chances were 50/50 it would work. Guess he finally figured my odds were good enough vs my constant requests.

I first heard about that when I had a rottweiler that had real bad back & hip problems when he got old.
It gave him a new lease on life.

I've been taking the people version for several years and at 67, my joints are like guys MUCH younger than myself.
A little stiffness in the morning, but nothing like that 'it hurts all the time' some people have.

I'd be very carefull with DMSO I seem to remember its use was linked to liver cancer.
60 Min had a segment on DMSO ages ago and years later had another segment on people who used it were diagnosed with cancer.

I did a search on the internet and could find nothing about it causing cancer. I did find several articles about it being used to treat cancer, and to treat liver issues.

All I know is that I used it a few times on an arthritic knee and it no longer hurts.

I remember back in the 60's or 70's it was popular here.
    Never tried it back then.
Now that I'm old, I did try it for my pain.
    It didn't work for me.
One thing that I did find that works, sometimes, is 125 Absorbine Veternary Liniment.
    It's for horses.
Apply it to the area, and cover in a heating pad.
    Works for me anyway.

Burning the nerves works for a while. Short while, in my case. Maybe a little longer than steroid injections, but not a great deal longer. Worth a try, anyway.

The only thing that cures arthritis is death. I'm not in any hurry for that, so keep trying the steroids and such. I've had arthritis in the hands since age 17, in the knees since age 19, and over a dozen years ago was told that my back looked like that of an 80yo man. I'm only 67 now. Since there is no good cure, the only thing you can do is push off the day of reckoning as long as you can. YMMV, but maybe not by much!

I'm also a Desert Storm veteran, though REMF. Was in Riyadh, KSA, with my unit running the air war. Saw something that said the VA was accepting claims for muscle and joint pain recently in the VA email I get every month or so.

Bigeloil is what a physical therapist recommended when he was doing home visits after my 1st hip replacement, in 2009. The spellchecker here didn't like the spelling so I asked my Brave browser to search on it, and found that it's a Absorbine product. I like it, and it, like everything else, helps, but isn't a cure. It's not terribly expensive, and it's pretty easily available. I buy mine at Lumber II, but any decent feed store or lumber yard that supports farmers and ranchers should have it. You can order off Amazon, too.
