Not sure why this is an issue, but I followed the directions LEE supplied for setting up my dies which simply state that bullets must be seated deeply enough to work through the guns action. They provided a maximum overall length for the 9mm cartridge along with their charge table, which is straightforward enough. They do suggest trimming cases to the same length for a uniform crimp, but there is no mention of not crimping into the bullet's crimp groove. Over the years I've loaded thousands of 45 auto and 9mm this way, following the die manufacturer's instructions with no issues.
Do what works.
But a FN to the head or shoulders is the best way to stop those hole dwellers from getting away. We tend to the soft mix and give the critter a good zippity-do-da.
