    Redding 38/357 Profile Crimp Die

    Greetings,

How much do you turn your Redding Profile Crimp die when crimping on a cast bullet (not in its crimp groove)? Before I just used a taper die with half turn to crimp on the bullet and had no bullet creep even with mid range 357 Mag loads. My loads in question are in the range of 950 fps to 1,000 fps. I’ve been giving them a half turn of the die but the crimp seems a bit too much - Redding’s instructions don’t mention anything…

I’m leaning towards going back to my taper crimp die when crimping on bullets (I crimp on bullets at times in order to meet certain OAL requirements per reloading manuals)

    Thanks all

Mine run about 900 fps. My taper crimp dies are 1/4 turn. I don’t have Redding crimp dies anymore. I decided to go back to taper crimp, sold my profile crimp dies and never looked back.

With Redding Profile Crimp I adjust to withstand 30kg push test against bathroom scale for 10 secs without shortening ctg. OAL more than 0.1mm. Use same spec for either auto pistols or revolver ammo.
