Anyone use Alliant sport pistol powder

I picked up a jug of Alliant Sport Pistol today. I just figured I would try it out. 4lb jug was $110.95 plus tax.

Data looks pretty good in 9mm, .40. I also load 10mm and .44 occasionally.

My typical 9mm powder is hp38/w231, but thought I could give sport pistol a try.

Never tried it, but would if I could find any. It seems to give top performance in 9 mm and a number of other calibers. Alliant claims that it is "optimized for polymer-coated bullets" (???) and has lower flash. The loading data remind me of W231, though Sport Pistol may be somewhat slower-burning.
In Alliant's section on .45 ACP +P, I can find loading data for no other propellant THAN Sport Pistol. Its use in this role, to the exclusion of other better-suited propellants, seems "less than optimal" to me, but I'M not in the business of promoting and selling brand-new "gee whiz" propellants.
There IS some mid-range data using Sport Pistol in .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum, so I guess SOME claim for versatility can be made.
ON PAPER, I don't really see what the new propellant promises to do that is not already done by Bullseye, Red Dot (Promo) or Green Dot, IF we could FIND THOSE PROPELLANTS FOR SALE. It DOES appear to offer better economics than Unique, Herco, or BE-86, but these tend to be better performers in magnum revolver rounds and high(est) performance semi-auto rounds.
I HAVE been accused of being overly conservative and "dated" in my propellant choices, despite my enthusiasm over the relatively new BE-86. I COULD be missing something by not seeking out Sport Pistol. If memory serves, however, it is no more available in my area than any of my old(er) favorites from Alliant.

I hope you WILL do work-ups with Sport Pistol in some of the cartridges you mentioned, and give us your honest impression. If I'm missing something, I'm not unapproachable about being told so.

I've burned through more than 4 lbs of it in the last several years. I believe it was formulated to compete with VV N320, if memory serves me correctly. It is very consistent and mild shooting. I really like it. I load it in 9mm minor for USPSA. I load a 160 grn Hi-Tek coated LRN for a S&W 929. I also load a 147 grn Hi-Tek coated RNFP. Check the Alliant Powders Reloading web page for data.

I have used a fair amount of it in 9mm. It just plain works with coated bullets and meters well in powder measures on progressive presses. It is clean, cool burning and is almost a 1 for 1 substitute for VV N320.

Like everything, it has gone up in price since I last stocked up on it. Depending on your shooting, that jug will last you a while.

Great. Thanks everyone for your input. It was cheaper than ww231 which I couldn't find, so I thought I'd give something new a try. I was just looking for something that was easy shooting and would work in my progressive. Sounds like it should work well for my intended purposes.
