    Goex Clear Shot

Shot 50 cal today with Goex Clear Shot FFg, had to laugh when I squeezed the trigger. 1000-1
1000-2,1000-3 Boom! Guess it isn't the best choice for hunting, but it was a free can of powder.Only using it a CVA Bobcat, saving the good stuff for my TC Hawkins

Did that happen on only one shot.
Or was it a consistant issue ?

It fired with a delayed reaction every time I shot.Tryed different caps, didn't matter. Kind of hard to explain the smell this powder puts off.But I shot 30 times and every patched round ball loaded smooth and accuracy was not to bad.
Maybe 1000-3 was pushing it time wise, but it was quite different than any other blackpowder I've used

Wonder if you could mix it with regular BP and get it to light faster?

    Just for safety,
I would stay away from using it as is.
But the suggestion to mix it with other powder is doable.
Or just make fireworks out of it.

That powder works best in "inlines" with 209 primers. Side locks just don't get the flame to powder as well. I've still got a can and a half myself found in my side lock TC Blk Mtn Magnum that a small amount of BP (3 - 5 gr) into the barrel first acting as an "igniter" gives ignition as it should.

Hmm, interesting. I thought it was discontinued years ago. Is it an old can of powder?

I tried it in a couple cartridge rifles 20+ years ago and it always went off instantaneously. I never tried it in a muzzleloader.

Price tag from Buckeye Outdoors in Ohio was $21.99
Can was open when I got it,little bit of surface rust on metal.
Powder is glossy black, it is a blackpowder sub

I know what it is. I bought a can of it, T-7 and.....some other sub I remember being gray and as hard as a brick...nasty stuff...Black Canyon maybe? I bought them to experiment with. We were living in Wyoming so it had to be before 2004. It gave good accuracy as I remember. I also remember it being quite a bit slower, over my chrono, than the T-7 or real BP. Haven't shot a sub since.

After having too many slow fires with game in my sights, particularly when cold, I have made a point to use a kicker charge of 10 to 20 grains of 3f black ahead of the main charge......no more slow ignition! The replacement powders are generally harder to ignite, so a little help is needed.

IIRC, the ignition of Pyrojunk is somewhere in the vicinity of 650 degrees F. That's 150+ degrees hotter than the real McCoy.

Side locks work every time using a Mag Spark (209lack Horn 209) conversion ,mine lite up Black Horn 209 and anything else you use for subs/Ed

    Interesting idea.

I had a roached 54 barrel turned into a 58 round ball barrel by Bobby Hoyt. The barrel shoots nicely, but ignition was a little iffy. I decided to swap out the stock TC nipple for a musket cap nipple. Voila! No more ignition issues.

Years ago I used ClearShot in cartridges (.357 mag) for Cowboy Action matches and is worked just fine. It reminded me of a ball powder as it metered well. I seemed to be a bit on the weak side but not much weaker than BP or the Black Canyon I was also using.

    Hello jim 44-40,

Are they making Clear Shot again?
About 20 years ago I wanted Clear Shot for my 45-70 for a Buffalo Shoot,
I couldn't find it anywhere. So I contacted Goex,
they responded about an explosion at their manufacturing facility.
I thought the stuff was discontinued, as they said there were no plans on making it again.

the sub's are good as long as the can isn't left open for an UBER extended amount of time! as with BP, it improves with age! and it being a gift you have no idea how it was kept? jmho!

Agreed.. a duplex charge of 4f or 3f ahead of 2f has always helped with bp subs for me.

That APP sux in my opinion. I bought a can of 3F and the grains were more like 2F and it was hinkey to light off in revolvers. i gave it away.
