Primer score!

While passing through a small town I stopped into a LGS specifically to look for primers. Guess what! They had three 1500 round boxes of Fiocchi small rifle primers. I bought all three.
So now, does anyone know how these Fiocchi primers rate in hotness compared to either CCI or Winchesters. Those are the ones I’m used to using. Never saw Fiocchi primers before this.

And my second question: I’m I completely off base in thinking I could use the standard rifle primers in place of small pistol primers? Would they be comparable to small magnum pistol primers? Cup sizes are identical although small rifle are thicker.
I have app’s. Just curious if things get tight.

The problem I have had with using srp in place of spp is weather or not your pistol firing pin it’s the small rifle primer hard enough to detonate it. Do a search there’s a whole Lotta info on the topic of switching primers around. I believe Larry Gibson has a few posts about it. Been posted way too many times for me to even attempt to repeat all the stuff in this post

Rifle primers are taller. Mike and check. I have used in my .45cap it has a strong spring. As far as what primers do, i tryed every brand i could get. All i did was change primers in my standard rifle load and ran over a crono. All were the same except cci and federal, they gave 100 fps faster.

Large rifle primers are taller, small are not, they are the same height regardless of rifle or pistol.

Personally I do not use rifle primers in pistol loads (and I don't use small rifle at all, I use only small rifle magnum), but plenty of people do it without too many issues.

The Fiocchi SR primers are AR15 safe and can be hard to ignite. I used them in my Ruger American 300 BLK and most would not ignite. I ended up running them in an AR.

Changing from one brand primer to another sometimes changes the velocity to one degree or another,
but if your firing pin hits hard enough-- sr primers will go off in your gun.

It might be my imagination, but my revolver hammers seem to hit harder than my automatics.

If nothing else, there's plenty of AR guys out there.
They'd make some prime trading items.

Or, this might be the perfect reason why you need to get a .357 lever gun.
I use sr primers in my Marlin more or less exclusively and they do fine.

Another buddy used sr primers in his open bolt, Class III Mac.
They did great in it too.
