Good reference material is a must have, it was mentioned earlier to get The Gunsmith of Grenville County and or Recreating the American Longrifle. Both are excellent resources of knowledge that will go a long ways to helping you out in your project. The hard part is choosing what you want to build. I am partial to rock locks myself as it's easier to get flints than caps these days, plus they're just fun.
I ordered a Pendersolli kit, 32 caliber flintlock from Dixie Gun Works just a while ago to get started with. Estimated delivery in 7-10 days.
