    Ted Williams "reborn"

I was on the brink of getting rid of this rifle some months ago, when a good friend of mine who likes to restore guns asked me if he could take a look at her. Dropped it off and a month or so later he called me and said he was finished looking LOL. Here's a couple of pics and link to rest.

Some of those old "store brand" rifles were pretty nice guns. Seems I recall Ted Williams stuff being sold at JC Penneys. Might be a Mossberg or ???
It seems that people who do almost nothing, often complain loudly when it's time to do it.

I believe Winchester branded some model 70's as "Ted Williams". Not sure of year this one was made but was after 1964. Was told pre-64 had Mauser actions? I am pretty impressed! Pics don't really do justice.

Ted Williams was a Sears model, and it was made by Winchester. Their (Sears) JC Higgins were manufactured by High Standard and Penny's "Musketeer" rifles were made by Fabrique Nationale.

What a beautiful job restoring it...almost tooooo purty to hunt with....but somehow I would force myself to! My main hunting partner uses a 30-06 Ted Williams and he always gets his deer with it!
When guns are outlawed only criminals and the government will have them and at that time I will see very little difference in either!

Friends like that are more valuable than the work done. Your a lucky man.

    .

The rifles originally were post-64 Winchester Model 70's & the shotguns were Winchester, Model 1200 (Sears 200) & Model 1400 (Sears 400) in two Sears grades - the "Sears" model & the slightly higher grade "Ted Williams" model

They all were made to Sears specifications under contract that stopped in 1973 (when Sear stopped selling firearms) - ergo, the slight differences (from the Winchester branded guns) in finish, stock wood, sights & checkering (or lack of).

They were a pretty good bang for the buck (pun intended).

The "after" is a heck of a lot better than "before." Who the heck put all the graffiti on that poor rifle?
