    38-55 Brass

I just picked up at a yard sale 60 Win 38-55 brass in the white Win boxes . All had been fired how many times ? Was 15$ for all too much for all

I am going to say $15 was a very good price in "today's market".

38-55 is nothing more than a 30-30 blown out to a straight wall

38-55 is actually the parent round of the 30-30, so technically its the other way around.

They will end up a little short by about 0.060" or so

will not hurt any thing, the 30-30 case can be reformed into several hard to find cases.

At the moment I just use the longer brass, but for $15 I'd snatched them also.
    Good find.

Nope; parent case for the 30-30 is in fact the 38-55. 38-55 was first produced in the mid~late 1870's while the 30-30 came along in the 1890's.

The 38-55 came out in 1876, 2 yrs. after the 45-70.

38-55 was also the parent to the 32-40 Ballard that came out in the 1880's.
30-30 can be used to make both if you don't mind them being a little short. Doesn't matter in a single shot but could be a difficulty in lever guns

    That's a great deal.
The 1894 Winchester was chambered for the 32-40 and 38-55 first, then in 1895 the 25-35 and 30-30 came along as the first smokeless civilian cartridges.
