Looking For A Specific Mould

I'm looking for a specific bullet mould for 100 grain, 0.356" bullets. The profile is like Lee's 356-102-1R bullet, except it has a flat point.


It's not so much that I want to buy this mould, as that I want to put a name to it. There's a story...

I bought a bunch of these bullets from a gun show vendor a number of years ago. They are round nosed enough that they don't "play well" with my Taurus TCP's chamber, or more specifically with the short leade in the TCP's barrel.

The TCP is happy with any jacketed or plated bullet, and I would assume it'd do OK with a cast bullet that had a "step" at the bottom of the ogive. But this particular bullet, which I have too many of to just junk, is a problem.

Any direction would be very much appreciated.

In a Lee 2006 catalog they mention a Lee 356-102-1R and that carried number 90305 in their catalog. It probably got a flat nose when lubed and sized by using an incorrect top punch. I will assume you have tried seating them a little deeper and you had feeding issues. The Lee -1R seem to have issues with many short throated barrels.

Yes, I had to seat them quite a bit deeper. The TCP needed these to be seated to an OAL of no more than 0.904".

Hopefully that will confirm your thought that it's just a 356-102 that got flattened in sizing.

I agree. The lube groove on my bullet is larger than the one on the Lee bullet.

Bingo ! We Have a Winner ... grease groove width , flat point diameter and equal (about) bearing surface above and below grease groove ... along with slight bevel base all indicate a commerical boolit like the Magma Moulds .

Nailed it ... and thanks for link ... I don't have that chart ... got it now !

In messing with these bullets this time, I noticed a mold line ON the flat point, which told me that the point can’t have been “deformed” to be that way.

So now that I know what I do not want, I need to find a 90-100 grain .356 mold that I can load to “normal” overall lengths…
