    Epoxy Release Agent ?

I am going to start to do some 2 part Epoxy casting of fishing lure bodies
I have never done anything with 2 part epoxy other than using the epoxy to stick stuff mold release agent

So I figure I would tap the great pool of knowledge here

I an looking for a release agent that not alter the clear finish
I am hoping for something that is easy to clean off or not no clean up to let paint adhere
Also I am planning on epoxying on a second 1/2

I carved a couple of wood lures
But I want to cast some copies
As carving can take a long time sometimes

    Thanks
    John

If you use RTV silicon rubber to make the mold there usually isn't a need for a release agent. Amazon has a listing for molding materials. You could also cast the bodies from polyurethane or clear polyester. Dyes are available if tints or colors are desired.

If you are making 2 piece molds and simple shapes packing tape works well. sticky side to the mold body.

I've done several glass bedding jobs using a generous coat of good ol' JPW (Johnson's Paste Wax) for a release agent. No problems separating the action from the stock once the bedding compound is cured; just a couple taps from a deadblow mallet to break the surface tension between the two.

I've used Hornady One Shot aerosol case lube; it gets into all the nooks and crannies when glass bedding. Not sure about clean up though.

Attached is a photo of a gang silicon mold for .45 LC cartridges plus a few as cast rounds (flashing still on them) and a cast 12.7mm Russian round (pigmented polyurethane) and an artillery nose fuze (natural polyurethane). No mold release used on any with the silicon mold.

John have you tried any buoyance tests? It seems to me that epoxy is kind of heavy.

    Yes
There is several large hollow areas
That is why I want a release agent
As I will be using a silicone insert to form the hollow and a Wood main mold
So the main mold will form the 1/2 of the lure
With the silicone part the hollow area to let the lure float
