Gents:
I am looking for an Old Model 3 Screw Ruger Blackhawk 357 Magnum Cylinder, and would be somewhat interested in a barrel as well. Does anyone out there have one in their old bag of tricks? Please let me know.
Thanks!!!!!

I may have a barrel. What length do you want?
I would be looking for a 6 1/2" barrel, but I really need to find a cylinder first. I'm thinking about making a 25-20, I would like to have an extra cylinder and barrel, in case I mess one up............

Relic, I have a blued .357 cylinder but have no info on it other than it’s marked CAL .357 MAG. It fits in my .45 colt Ruger Vaquero [old model] cylinder pin slides right in, the hand and cylinder stop seem to work but it’s too short. If interested I’ll get my calipers out tomorrow and measure it and take some photos. I don’t have a .357 to ck it in.
If for some reason Baltimoreed's is wrong, I'll measure one i got laying around here.
I'll look into my barrels & check for one of the 6-1/2" ones. I'll hold off on things until you decide you may want it. PM me if you wish on the barrel.
Just a note;
"I have a blued .357 cylinder but have no info on it other than it’s marked CAL .357 MAG. It fits in my .45 colt Ruger Vaquero"
Ruger never marked their .357 cylinders with the caliber.
Thanks, y'all, please PM me some dimensions and maybe photos, I can measure mine and post the dimensions.
OK, here are some cylinder dimensions:
Cylinder length without the ratchet or front bushing: 1.600"-1.602"
Total length, including ratchet and front bushing:1.830"
Diameter of cylinder: 1.673"
On an Old Model, the 6 ratchets on the rear of the cylinder look like 6 little rectangles. On a New Model, they don't.
Thanks for looking!
Well I have a Ruger .357 Maximum cylinder you could trim down if things get really desperate

I think I got ahead of myself with that suggestion to trim down the Maximum cylinder. Unless you can rebuild the ratchet end, you’d be trimming off the throat end and I don’t think you’d have much, if any throat left. I’ll measure it later on this afternoon.

The OP's Ruger is an early 3 screw, built on the smaller frame, similar in size to the Colt SAA. Most Ruger single actions, including all the 357 Maximums, built since 1972 were made on the large 44 frame. Cylinders will not interchange between these frame sizes. Later "New Vaqueros" and the reissued flat tops returned to the small frame, but with other engineering changes. When evaluating the suitability of an offered cylinder, your best indicator is cylinder diameter and length. One of my early 357 cylinders measures 1.67" diameter and 1.60" length. Many sellers do not appreciate these differences and unintentionally misrepresent their item.
Nueces:
You are correct, my Ruger is an older 3 screw Blackhawk from 1970, and the cylinder is 1.67" in diameter. and 1.60 long, without the rear ratchet or front bushing.
Thanks!
357 Maximum cylinder. It does have some guy’s initials electrograved into the side and rear of the cylinder.
1.938” length rear face to front face
1.731 diameter
2.225” length with ratchet and front bushing

tja6435,, PM sent on the Maxi cylinder.
I didn't think about it 'till right now, a 9mm cylinder would work too.
This needed a bump anyway....................
