Winchester High Wall in 22 Hornet

Was trying out some different reloads yesterday in my 22 Hornet, all bullets were .224, started with 55gr Varmageddon, H110, small rifle primer, bullet was tumbling and hit the target sideways, second load was a 50 gr Hornady V-Max, H110 and small pistol primer. Same result, tumbling and hit target sideways, third bullet, 40gr Hornady V-Max, H-110, SPP, I shot once at top of target and made the nice round hole you see, the next4 shots are in the center there where you see the cluster. This was all at 25yrds as I just wanted to get on the paper and see which load grouped the best. think for now I'll stick with the 40s and see how it does at 100 and 200. Not sure why the other bullets were tumbling as they left the barrel, but doesn't seem to like the heavier bullets.

Check the barrel twist rate and velocity. Likely not enough spin to stabilize the heavier bullets.

Please check also the bore diameter.

You might try the 35g Berger and 35g Nosler spire point bullets they should also shoot in that rifle, they shoot real well in my two Hornets and a 218 Bee.
