The painful lesson you are going to experience is the costs of brass. I cast and have scrounged brass at shows for a while and I’m sitting on several hundred rounds now. Once you’re over that spanking, it’s a lot of fun.
Owwwwww, I just checked prices on 45-70 brass and my credit card is experiencing sympathy pain.

Liberty Suppressors Goliath as of now with a Phoenix Weaponry .45-70 can that should be here in a couple of weeks.

I found 11gr of Unique with no filler functions nice and is point of aim point of impact at 40 yards offhand. There is more testing to be done but I am off to a good start.

An interesting read . I shoot my 45-70 handi with a Lane scorpion 458 suppressor and j word bullets with various powders . It’s very accurate and soft on the shoulder. I haven’t tried cast yet .

Unburnt pieces and parts in a can is bad enough to clean, without adding to it with filler.
I have used filler with my big bore cast guns, using 4227 and Unique to compress the load for matches, for 40 years, it works well, but, it just does not make much sense to me for subsonic with a can, it ain’t a target match at 500 yards. Should be at the most, 50-100 yards. I sight my subs in at 50.

When I first got my .45-70 Handirifle, I didn't have a mold or any jacketed bullets for it but I had a bunch of bullets that I had cast for my M1911. So I patched them up to .459 with Teflon plumbers tape and loaded them over 9 grains of Unique. The first time I shot that rifle I was out with my grandsons shooting they're .22 single shots so I shot it at the same range. I'd say about 25 yards. It shot to point of aim with the peep-sight I had just installed. I'm not sure what Teflon patching would do to a silencer but it looked like snow about 3' out from the barrel...

Curiosity question about the Handirifles. What is the weight of one of those?

I'm not sure. I have 6 of them but I've never weighed one...

Are you going to share the powder charge, seating depth and bullet used? Surely it isn’t this bullet.

No plans for a can, but how quiet do you guys think the 45-70 could be with subsonic in a Buffalo classic barreled handi?

Depends on type and amount of powder used . Subsonic is still easier on the ears without a can . I shoot all my loads without the suppressor first and check for stability before I put the suppressor on. Barrel length will also affect the amount of noise.
