OK I will admit what I am doing is not all original
But I have mixed several ideas and added my idea
I cut a single cavity .460 dia mold based after NOE 460 405 gr RF as it shoots well for me
But I wanted to play around with slight HP's
Details
I am using drill rod for the HP stems as it is what I have
To set the height I cut a slot in the mold through the hole got the HP stem
I use a E Clip pressed into a grove I cut in the HP stem
I wanted to be able to reinsert the HP stem with a bare hand and make keeping the mold at the right height
So I am making the HP Stem long
After I figure out where I want the mold to be under my Lee 20 lb lead pot
I cut 2 more groves in the HP stem and cut the HP stem to length
I make a handle for the HP stem with a recess deep enough for the last E clip and about 1/8" of the HP stem to be inside the handle
This keeps me from burning may hand
The other grove is used to hold the handle in place
I first put on the end E Clip
Add the handle and then add the other 2 E Clips
As for the handle height
I want the sprue plate to be just under the pour spout
So I take the total height of the Mold & Sprue plate
I then subtract that height from the distance from the pour spout to the base of the under the pour spout
I also subtract another 1/10" for clearance
His is the height I cut for the handle
It allows me to slide the mold under the pour spout at the same height every time
So for the 22 cal HP mold I made a few weeks ago
The handle was pretty large
Today the handle for the .460 dia mold the handle was a lot shorter
Your thoughts ?
