    Federal manufacturing date/lot code.

    Hey members:
I found some primers yesterday and purchased a couple 100 piece boxes, and a couple more today. There was a 2 box limit per day. Anyway, I like to date my primers so I can use up the oldest first. Does anyone know the Federal manufacturing date/lot code formula to cypher this information?

I wouldn't worry about it much. I am still shooting primers I bought in the late 60's.

Not worrying about it. Just one of my quirks.

I just write the month/year I buy them if they are bought from a dealer out of current stock, which mine are. Especially now, I doubt they were in stock anywhere for any length of time unless you bought them from a seller who resells second-hand components.

    Greetings,

I found this information via Google.

    Looks promising.

    Cheers,

I always take a Sharpie and write the date I purchase on them.
Do the same anymore on all the stuff from the grocery store.
This way I know I am using the oldest first.
Any primers properly stored will outlive you and your heirs.
Still good to rotate your stock, no matter what it is.

    Thanks members.
fc60, the explanation on that post is the most information I've seen on the subject. As was stated, any primers on the shelves now days is going to be recent manufacture.

Always date your primers, powder, bullets. I date when i buy my primers and when I open 100 .

    Duckiller:
That's what I do, and that's the reason for my posting. I know I'm splitting hairs, but the purchase date will not be the manufacture date. The CCI #41 primers I bought yesterday were manufactured in January of this year.
I see you're a "webfoot" as am I. I'm just south of you here in Albany.

I've never understood why manufacturers (not just ammo and components) go to such trouble to come up with lot code systems that seem intended to confuse anyone trying to decipher them. Instead of all the Julian date gibberish, why not just 06-01-2022 lot xyz. that would tell consumers everything we usually need to know and the inhouse records for that lot would have all the detailed information that manufacturers might want to keep record of.

I agree, but if it's like the government, they can justify what they do.
