new marlin 1894cb oct barrel 44mag

Fellas I came across one of these new and the specs say 1:16 twist, 20" barrel. I hadnt heard of this configuration before, was suprised it didnt have Marlins usual 1:38 twist( though maybe they changed this some time ago?) and wondered if anyone could answer the following?
Anyone know what the barrels might slug at?
Anyone know if the quality is okay? I know marlin went through a bad patch, and the usual advice for a while was get a JM stamped gun. Would a new marlin be okay? It has a fairly significant premium price attached, maybe 20-25% more than a regular round barrel.

Just a guess, but I would bet the barrels run about .432",....this is the SAAMI spec for .44 magnum rifles. MY Winchester and Henry run .432".

A new Remlin or a new Ruglin?

I think if the Ruger looks good, go for it.

I'd check that twist rate before I believed 1:16 if it was anything under 1:38 it would more likely be 1:20. I think it may be mismarked? The only 1:16 44 Magnum gun I have ever heard of was one made for Brian Pearce and it was a custom built $3500 rifle the he specified the twist rate so the gun would shoot 350 gr SWC's. There was an article about it in Rifle Magazine. Pretty neat gun and a take down too.

marlin made custom batches of 1894cb's for Lipsey's and talo. if my memory is correct they were runs of I believe between 500 and 1500 guns depending on caliber
they have sold for some incredibly high prices recently.

just curious, how much did you pay for it? does it have a safety, built after 1983?
