    .457 airgun slugs, HP

Hi Folks, I've recently re-entered the shooting gallery with an Airforce Texan SS .457 big bore airgun. I've been hording and melting WW's and other lead for casting my boolits. I will need a mould for HPs, I'm thinking 280-305 grain HPs. Can anyone offer me access to, or where to find, moulds for these? Being a newbee, I'm open to input and assistance. Thanks in advance for your kind response. Keep 'em smiling... Tom

A good mold I found for my Texan 45 is the NOE 460-315-HP RF comes with 3 pin sets FN, HP and cup drops around 281gr with the deep HP pin.

I shoot the .457 Texan SS CF and hand cast 8 different slugs for mine. Most all of my mold are from Tom @ Accurate Molds or Jared @ Arsenal Molds. I cast slugs between 240g and 372g in .357, and a dozen or more for my other calibers. It really likes the 242g, 290g, and 324g I cast. Arsenal 45-230-WFN, Arsenal 45-70-330 RF, NOE HTC459-300-RF for starters...

Tom, sorry I’m late oh this, haven’t logged in for a couple of weeks. I have the same gun, and cast all my bullets for it. The one I get the best performance with is a NOE 460-396-RF-AE2. With the HP pin it casts at about 376 grains. I size mine to .358. I have found that this slightly heavier bullet shoots better than the 12 lighter moulds that I have. I hope this helps!

    Ww is to hard!
Use lead with 2-3% tin for good mould fillout.
You have to drive a HP very fast (1700+fps) if it's made from ww and you want it to expand at all.
At airgun speeds hard bullets will do you no good.

What is the maximum distance (with accuracy) all of you have seen with the Texan .457? I have one that was given to me a while back when a family member wanted it out of her house. It just looked to ominous to her.
It needs some work, as when I have tried to shoot it, it just goes “phiff”. I’m hoping seals and is able to be brought back. But I would like to know the accuracy I could expect from it.
    Thank you for the data.

I consider 100 yards as my practical distance. It will go further, but ethically for hunting that is a good max range.
