I remember the Stembridge Sales--an acquaintance bought several 1903 Springfields for the actions.

It's too bad that Hollywood is located in California. If that makes sense!

I just saw a commentary on FOX News saying that a lot of movie making (and the people attached to it) have relocated to the Atlanta area for the tax breaks etc that Georgia offers. It would be a shame if they figure out a way to ruin the Peach State too!

Remember seeing a story about the guy who taught Arness the quickdraw. Also interesting how he used a long barrel Colt.

Sad to hear that but you're right. Stacy Abrams is a true socialist. Make me thankful to have our Govenor, Kay Ivey. She had a campaign ad with her 'lil Smith& Wesson 38 in her purse and she just signed the Constitutional Carry Law here.

Passed through twice, going to and coming from Florida. That was enough but, all cities of that size....and a lot smaller are all alike as far as I'm concerned. Only difference is the climate.

They armed Marshall Dillon with the long-barreled SAA because James Arness was 6’ 7”. Anything shorter looked like a toy in his hand.

I remember an opening they used that featured him galloping on horseback. It looked like his heels were about to dig into the ground. Arness also didn’t appear very comfortable on a horse.

I never understood why they used that opening. It didn’t make their star look very good.

I saw a clip of him on Johnny Carson. He made Carson look like a kid, he was a big guy.

I believe Wayne recommended him for the role.

Wayne was actually sought out by the producers to be Matt Dillon. When he refused, they asked for any suggestions as to who might fill the bill. He offered James Arness. I heard Arness tell that story on an interview from the 80's. He mentioned he was very thankful.
“You should tell someone what you know. There should be a history, so that men can learn from it.

He smiled. “Men do not learn from history. Each generation believes itself brighter than the last, each believes it can survive the mistakes of the older ones. Each discovers each old thing and they throw up their hands and say ‘See! Look what I have found! Look upon what I know!’ And each believes it is something new.

    Louis la mour

I have read all his books, and even met him, I was 20 years in the US COAST GUARD, stationed at their station , the US CG INSTITUTE, OKLAHOMA CITY, OK. WHICH was out at the air port, he was doing a book signing, signed 3 of my books, and i never realized how big he was. He was as big as James Arness.
